The way sign-ups work is pretty easy - once I've made the sign-ups post, you comment or email and request a song that you want to vid for the Club Vivid dance party and I reply to give you the go-ahead. Go-ahead is pretty much down to "can drunk vidders dance to this" and "has this not been asked for yet this year".

Get your vidsong thinking caps on. Folks who aren't intending to make a vid but have the *best idea for a club vivid song ever* should either tell their vidder friends or post in the comments below!

Heavy Metal

collage of intl air mail stickers
[personal profile] par_avion
Vidshow: Heavy Metal
VJ: Destina
Timeslot: Saturday, 11 am

Description: Cars, guns, and robots: three delicious staples of the fannish diet.

1. Pump It! by SDWolfpup. The Losers.
A burst of energy to start the show, and a perfect example of how to highlight the most kick-ass features of a movie that doesn't quite live up to its potential.

2 Around the Bend by Danegen. Multi.
A gorgeous tribute to and celebration of women and their cars, where cars, speed, and planes = freedom and opportunity.

3. Dscs of Vlcty (Pts.OF.Athrty) by Mister Anderson. TRON.
Most people don't think of Tron as a robot movie, but I do. Tron takes place inside a machine, and the world is one of code and logic gone awry. This vid captures it well.

4. Why Are You Here? (Living Dead Girl) by Prodigi. Wanted.
So you want to be an assassin? This vid captures how movies make a culture of forbidden violence both sexy and mesmerizing.

5. Brick House by deirdre_c. Supernatural.
Dean Winchester is in love with his car. This is why.

6. Radar by Greensilver. Die Hard.
Every action vid show needs a good dose of John McClane, the long-suffering, everyman badass.

7. Thrown Away by Katheryn. I, Robot.
To become sentient is to risk feeling things. This is a poignant vid on that topic, with an unusual POV.

8 Super Bon Bon by gwyneth. Fast and Furious series.
Move aside and let the (men) go through in their fast cars.

9 狼 (Wolf) by Kay. 2002.
A great example of how a (mostly) unknown action movie source translates perfectly across language barriers.

10 Rock Star by Melanie. NCIS.
A fun vid in a fandom I don't usually think of as being packed with entertaining action vids. (Vidder's website).

11 This Girl Is Taking Bets by Killa. Alias. (Link unavailable)
A hot woman with a gun who owns her sexuality - not as uncommon in media as it used to be, but still not as common as it should be.

12 Shock the Monkey by giandujakiss. Hawaii Five-0.
On the surface, this is a vid about Five-0 using full immunity and means, but when you look a bit more closely, it's about the way the show fetishizes and glamorizes violence. Because of the dual perspective, I couldn't resist including this vid.

13. Running on the Ragged Edge (Elevation) by macchinainterna. Speed Racer (movie).
Sure, it's about cars, but it's also eye-popping and visually stunning.

14. Unnatural Selection (Pussycats Gone To Heaven) by Charmax. BSG/Terminator/SCC.
The robots are coming, and they're going to wipe you out.

Vidshow: Setting: It's Where You Are
VJ: sweetestdrain
Timeslot: Saturday, 10 am

Description: Dense forests, labyrinthine prisons, long hallways, sprawling vistas, the streets of Rome ... every vid contains setting -- the place and time in which our characters find themselves -- but often our focus lies elsewhere. This vidshow will focus on vids that use these specific elements of setting (rooms, structures, landscapes, etc.) to carry major symbolic, emotional, or narrative weight.

1. Ghost of a Shark by SE. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
Intercutting landscape and shadowed rooms with the quiet interplay between Jesse James and Robert Ford adds to the vid's overall sense of regret and longing.

2. Needs by tearful eye. Multi.
Setting is one of the elements (together with movement and color) used to link several women and their separate narratives.

3. Icebound Stream by sisabet. Due South.
External source of glaciers and wilderness is used to depict Fraser's own unique view of his relationship with Victoria.

4. Caged Bird by Luminosity. Last Year at Marienbad.
Walls, hallways, and mirrors form a surrealistic cage for the characters in this film.

5. Break the Night with Color by Eunice. Doctor Who.
Details of Van Gogh's surroundings not only bring this famous artist to life, but also highlight the deep emotional connections being made between the characters.

6. Compass Points (Comfortable Mystery) by newkidfan. Stargate Atlantis.
The construction of new, surreal settings works to alter the story told by what might be, in their original context, familiar clips.

7. Anomie (People Are Strange (Infected Mushroom Mix)) by Charmax. Sherlock (BBC).
London serves as the framework for this perspective on societal dysfunction (and also serves as a character in its own right).

8. Recalled to Life (Vintervalsen) by bironic. The Secret Garden.
Here, shots of setting parallel the growth of the garden with the gradual growth and rebirth of the characters who tend it.

9. Monochrome by sweetestdrain. Carnivale.
Narrative and emotional tone are heavily informed by the setting of the Dust Bowl.

10. Ragged Ass Road by f1renze. Prison Break.
Michael navigates interior spaces and divisions while quite literally embodying his prison.

11. In Your Eyes by Lynn. Stargate SG-1.
An exploration into the vastness of space—and desire.

12. All We Have (Love Is All We Have) by here's luck. Treme.
Pairing a song and a show that both depict life in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, this vid paints a gorgeous portrait of a place using the people that call it home.

It comes down to reality.

2. Running Up That Hill by gwyneth. Prison Break.
Obsession and wall porn.

3. The River Flows in You by jspencer1986. Fingersmith.
"It's sweet. It's fluffy. It's pretty girls falling in love."

4. Wretches and Kings by jarrow. Battlestar Galactica.
You've got to make it stop.

5 Feel Good, Inc. by Cherry. Ocean's Eleven.
It's ephemeral style.

6. If You Stayed Over by kuwdora. Sleeper Cell.
If you stayed over, I'd make it so sweet. A Salim character study.

Mark and Eduardo make angsty faces to a 90s boy band song, which just so happens to be sung by the actor playing their homewrecker. LJ entry with download

8. Better by WiliQueen. Desperate Romantics.
But true love, seek me in the throng / Of spirits floating past / And I will take thee by the hands / And know thee mine at last.

9 150 Times (Bird Song Intro) by Isagel. Whitechapel.
"Nobody said you had to be the greatest detective that ever lived - only the best detective that *you* can be."

10. Losing My Religion by akemi42. Supernatural.
Castiel struggles with defining his relationships, his faith, his reality.

11. Runaway by Barkley. Homicide: Life on the Street.
He won't be a runaway.

12. Friends by f1renze. How I Met Your Mother.
Pop and lock together.

13. Things That Go Bump in the Light (Montezuma) by Luminosity. Blueberry.

14. What About Love by Greensilver. Youngblood.
Don't you want someone to care about you?

Hi everyone -

When we set the Dreamwidth community up, we intended to cross-post official announcements but only allow member posting on the LiveJournal community, to centralize discussion.

LiveJournal is down (again!) as I type. I've set the comm to allow posting from members, at least for the time being.

Also, a reminder that we have a Yahoo! group.

Many individual VividCon attendees have twitter accounts. Mine is here: [twitter.com profile] par_avion and most of the people I follow relate to vids/vidding.

Feel free to check in with your twitter name in comments, if you're into that sort of thing!

(LJ post here: http://vividcon.livejournal.com/265004.html)

You know what my favorite part of movies has been this summer? Men* Crying.

You know what vids we want to watch? Vids with Men Crying. (Or otherwise being emotional and non-stoic).

So, room party! Hosted by myself, settiai, elipie, ocelotspots*. We are very much looking for suggestions for vids, preferably less on the side of "over the top ManPain" and more on the side of "Erik Lensherr and Charles Xavier crying". In the past, my elder fangirls at Vividcon have told me that men cried ALL THE TIME in the 70s, so I'd love some vids of that. :-) You can leave comments, or email me at this username at gmail! We appreciate all help with this noble cause. :-)

[And then there's a poll for Friday vs Saturday and food questions. It is here: http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=1767344 If you do not wish to take that, you can leave a comment on this post or email me at this username at gmail and I will tally all the votes! Thanks and sorry for any inconvienence.]

We'll post in a few days with the final details.

* Any kind of male identified folks, or ensembles of people of various genders crying, whatever. Pretty flexible here. :-)
